Holidays.

They really weren't Dave's favorite thing at all. So many responsibilities. Obligations to do Christmas movies. Photoshoots. Holiday dinners with important people. Visiting family.

It was the latter that Dave wasn't really looking forward to most of all. It wasn't that he didn't love his family or anything like that, it was just... Well, his parents had been more than a little frisky in their lifetime and by the time he was well into adulthood, by some miracle his mother's eggs had decided to be fertile. Thus, a sister was born when he'd already grown and made a life for himself.

Having a sister was... awkward, to say the least. He barely had a chance to know her, being busy with his movies and his life. It just wasn't conducive to spending time with her. In a way, being around his family was like looking in at someone else's family and not his own because he'd already been through all of the experiences Rose was going through. It was like they were new parents all over again and he was just a third wheel.

But like a good son, he came over for the holidays despite his reservations. A whole two weeks out of his December spent in awkward and uncomfortable misery. He came with expensive gifts, figuring he could make up for thoughtfulness with extravagance. They were put under the tree to await Christmas morning and then it was nothing but to talk. Answer questions about his movies, what his next project was, when he was going to settle down. The same old song and dance.

Except there was a difference. Rose. He couldn't really place it, but there was something... weird? He didn't know. Perhaps he was just over thinking things. He always did have a habit of doing that when Rose was involved. He barely knew her and he didn't know how to talk to her at all. Sometimes he felt inexplicably uncomfortable and he didn't know why.

Dave didn't want to dwell on it too much, though. He'd been there a few days by that point and at present, he was just getting back from having been dragged out by his mother for last minute Christmas shopping. It was late afternoon and they'd been at it for what felt like forever. He had things to do- a movie to write, mainly. So he retired to his room to get started on that. He slipped into the room, turning to press the door closed.

For a moment, he let his head rest against the door, lightly thumping his forehead against it. December was such a frustratingly long month.
